For almost 20 years, she was a research scholar at Princeton University. In 2006, she published Confronting Zoonoses, Linking Human and Veterinary Medicine in the CDC journal Emerging Infectious Diseases that helped launch the One Health Initiative (http://www.onehealthinitiative.com) which is a global effort to promote the One Health concept that human, animal, plant, environmental, and ecosystem health are linked. Dr. Laura H. Khan has received a Presidential Award, and the American Veterinary Epidemiology Society (AVES) awarded her with their highest honor for her work in One Health: the K.F. Meyer-James H. Dr. Sue Holcombe is a retired large animal veterinarian and professor from Michigan State University. She volunteers with Citizens Climate Lobby Grand Traverse and is interested in the intersection of agriculture, the environment and climate change. In her presentation, "How Your Protein Choices Impact You and the Planet", Sue plans to discuss the variety of ways people get protein, from veganism to industrial feedlots, how our eating choices impact the environment, our nutrition and health, and the humane treatment of animals. MiCCA Educational Presentation - April 22, 2022 ABOUT: Katie Neff is a third year medical student at the University of Michigan. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and attended UC Berkeley, where she studied Integrative Biology. She is planning on applying for a residency in OB-GYN and is passionate about reproductive justice. Katie will review the intersection of Reproductive and Environmental Justice, particularly the impacts of pollution, toxins, and climate change on obstetric outcomes, as well as the role of healthcare providers in mitigating these impacts.

MiCCA Educational Presentation, September 23, 2022 About the presentation: Just as it does for physical health, the climate crisis is having a substantial—and increasing—impact on mental health. I will provide an overview of the numerous mental health effects of climate change, covering some of the latest research findings, relevant terminology, and important issues in this relatively new and rapidly developing area. About the speaker, Laura Carter Robinson Psy.D.: Dr. Laura Carter Robinson, Psy.D., is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Ann Arbor with a specialty in eco- and climate-aware therapy. She is the state/regional coordinators liaison for Climate Psychology Alliance of North America, as well as CPA’s state coordinator for Michigan. As part of the American Psychological Association’s group of trained psychologist advocates, she has spoken to members of Congress about climate change and mental health legislation. She has also received several awards for her personal grassroots environmental work.

MiCCA Educational Presentation, November 18, 2022 "A Health Policy Hurricane: Promoting Health in a Changing Climate" About the speaker, Sue Anne Bell.: Sue Anne Bell is an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing, where her research, supported by the National Institutes of Health, focuses on the health and well-being of aging populations in the context of disasters and public health emergencies. She is currently serving on the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Advisory Council, as well as on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s National Council on Seniors and Disasters. She is clinically active in disaster response through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s National Disaster Medical System with recent deployments for the COVID-19 response, to Hurricane Maria and the 2018 Paradise, California wildfires.
